The legacy of Attucks continues today. With the help of students, teachers, and community leaders, a grassroots agent for integration was formed. Through dedicated leadership, famous graduates, and a winning basketball team, Attucks paved the road for the next generation. The accomplishments of Attucks, as a school, changed the white community’s perspective of the black community, helping unite a once divided city.

"Attucks produced tons of contributors to a society that initially scorned them and you can see Attucks' footprint far beyond state lines. This school was created to put these kids over here where we didn’t have to see them every day. Nobody had any idea how well they would do." Attucks is not just a school, but a symbol of success even during harsh times. While the black community disagreed with its creation in the 1920's, today they see it as a historic icon that teaches younger generations how you can triumph despite a tragic beginning. "This is a critical moment in time historically. We are still facing so many of the same issues that the documentary reflects... It can really offer the opportunity to see that these things are persistent ailments within our society." |
